eQUEST Energy Simulation Program Description: eQUEST is an energy simulation tool with different levels of sophistication and functionality., making it useful for “big picture” schematic level decisions as well as detailed fine tuning of building systems. It is meant to be used throughout most phases of the design process by various members of the design team.
Introduction to eQUEST
with Osvaldo Marcano, PE
Date : Wednesday, March 5th, 2008
Duration: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Credits: 7.0 Technical (CIAPR) / 7.0 HSW (CAAPPR) / 7.0 HSW (AIA)
Workshop Description: This hands- on event will provide general overview and introduction to building energy analysis using eQUEST. The emphasis will be on early schematic design application of whole-building energy analysis using eQUEST’s Building Creation Wizards, as well as the Energy Efficiency Measures (EEM) Wizard. The EEM Wizard is designed to permit users to very quickly create and explore building design alternatives at a schematic level of detail.
Intermediate eQUEST
with Osvaldo Marcano, PE
Date: Thursday, March 6th, 2008
Duration: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Credits: 7.0 Technical (CIAPR) / 7.0 HSW (CAAPPR) / 7.0 HSW (AIA)
Workshop Description: This hands-on event will provide a general overview and introduction to detailed building energy analysis using eQUEST’s Detailed Interface. The focus will be on detailed design application beyond the schematic level of whole-building energy analysis methods using eQUEST. The Detailed Interface is a full Windows® interface to DOE 2.2., the latest version of DOE – 2 and the calculation engine within eQUEST. Discussed will also be selected detailed interface procedures such as defining custom constructions and glass properties and building operations schedules, as well as modeling more complex HVAC systems or lighting systems, and introduction to working directly in DOE – 2’s Building Description Language.

ASHRAE 62.1-2004
Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality
by: Dennis Stanke. P.E.
Chairman of ASHRAE 62 committee & USGBC LEED Technical Advisor
The purpose of this standard is to specify minimum ventilation rates and indoor air quality that will be acceptable to human occupants and are intended to minimize the potential for adverse health effects. This standard is intended for regulatory application to new buildings, additions to existing buildings, and those changes to existing buildings that are identified in the body of the standard. Highly recommended to any building industry professional who is considering using LEED on a new construction project, or who is seeking LEED Professional Accreditation. Requirements in Std 62.1-2004 which must be met in order to comply with the prerequisite, LEED-NC v2.2, EQp1 & a brief discussion on indoor environmental quality credit EQc2 (30% increase in ventilation) and how it relates to energy credit EAc1

LEED® Technical Reviews
The Caribbean Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council in its efforts to educate the local construction industry in the concepts of sustainable design and construction is bringing for the first time to Puerto Rico two of the LEED® spotlight Technical Reviews. These reviews were offered by USGBC during the GreenBuild Convention last November in Denver, CO. The reviews consist of full day workshops in the topics of LEED for New Construction and LEED for General Contractors/Construction Managers. The cost of the reviews will be the same as the costs offered in the States and during the USGBC convention for Full Day seminars.
These reviews are independent from each other but are offered in sequence for the benefit of those individuals who are new to sustainable design concepts and LEED tools. LEED for New Construction will be offered the first day as the introductory review, and will present basic sustainable design concepts as well as explain the use of the LEED NC tool. The second day review will be LEED for General Contractors/Construction Managers, which explains in more details the construction phase/construction management aspects necessary to comply with LEED NC credits requirements in the process for the LEED Certification. It is strongly suggested that individuals registering for General Contractors/Construction Managers review who are not intimately familiar with the LEED NC tool also register for the first day seminar.
These seminars will give the local construction industry the tools to successfully incorporate sustainable design concepts in future projects, which ultimately will be of great benefit to the community and the environment. At the present, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico does not require governmental projects to comply with sustainable design and LEED Certification. Nevertheless, the Puerto Rico Convention Center District has been a pioneer in the sustainability efforts and mandates that all its buildings obtain a LEED Silver Rating. In the future, the USGBC Caribbean Chapter hopes that the local government recognizes the benefits of sustainable design and construction, and requires its buildings to be LEED certified.
